Dąbrowa Górnicza Strzemieszyce
Design and design consultancy

Commissioned by the Municipality of Dąbrowa Górnicza we have developed guidelines for the local zoning plan for the surroundings of the train station in Strzemieszyce (the area belongs to Polish Railway and is currently restricted). The proposal was developed within a series of design workshops attended by residents, public officers, a representative of PKP PLK and designers. The aim of the meetings was to create a common concept of the area redevelopment, including transport and circulation solutions and zoning of the area. Strzemieszyce Wielkie, a district of Dąbrowa Górnicza, a former village, was attached to the city in the 7os. Currently it is an area of predominant residential and industrial function. Its spatial layout is protected as important urban heritage. The historic train station building was demolished in 2016 despite the will of the residents.

During three meetings we developed initial guidelines first, and then we presented alternative options for discussion. In the end, the final variant was proposed, together with the guidelines for the local zoning plan. We have also provided local community with suggestions how to obtain grants for financing redevelopment of the area.

The project was carried out in collaboration with the Department of NGO and Civic Activity in Dąbrowa Górnicza.
